Heather Slub T-Shirts

Custom Heather Slub T-Shirt Manufacturer

FORGEMFG manufactures custom heather slub T-shirts for streetwear brands with a standard MOQ of 50 pieces per style and colorway. Buyers can customize the fiber blend, fabric weight, slub intensity, color, fit, neckline, labels, packaging, screen printing, puff printing and embroidery. Sampling normally takes 7–15 business days after the specifications are confirmed.

Heather slub T-shirts get their marled color and textured surface from the yarn itself, rather than from a wash or printed effect. This changes how the fabric is selected and approved. For the spinning method and fiber science behind the fabric, see our heather slub yarn technique page.

The most useful thing to send in a first inquiry is a reference photo or physical swatch. Slub intensity, fiber contrast and hand-feel are more accurately approved with a real fabric reference than from a screen image alone.

Fiber blend & slub intensity

Approved on a physical swatch

The heathered appearance is commonly created by spinning fibers with different tones or dye responses into one yarn, while controlled thick-and-thin sections create the slub texture. Cotton-rich blends often provide a softer, more natural hand-feel, while polyester can improve shape retention and durability. The final contrast depends on the blend ratio, fiber colors, yarn construction and dyeing method, so the exact result is confirmed with a physical swatch.

Slub intensity is a spectrum rather than a fixed setting — how pronounced the thick-thin texture reads on the finished jersey. Like our wash grades, it's confirmed on a physical fabric swatch, not from a photo on a screen, since slub texture is subtle enough that screen color and lighting can flatten the difference between a light and a classic intensity.

Light heather slub jersey swatch with subtle close-toned texture

Light

A subtle, close-toned texture — reads almost as a premium basic with a bit of visible grain rather than an obvious heather effect.

Classic heather slub jersey swatch with balanced marled texture

Classic

The level shown in our sample gallery piece — clearly heathered and textured, without reading as a deliberately rough or distressed fabric. The most requested option.

Heavy heather slub jersey swatch with pronounced thick-and-thin texture

Heavy

A more pronounced, uneven texture with visible thick-thin variation across the fabric — a directional choice for brands wanting a rougher, more vintage hand-feel.

Fabric weight

The 220 GSM fabric shown in our sample gallery is a reference, not a fixed specification for every order. Available weights depend on the requested fiber blend, yarn and construction. Two fabrics with the same nominal GSM can also feel different when their yarn structure or finishing changes. The final composition, GSM and tolerance are recorded on the approved swatch or sample before bulk production. For a broader comparison, see our fabric weights & GSM guide covers that decision in more general terms.

Colorway

Heather slub can be developed in many color families, but it will not look as flat or uniform as solid-color jersey. The visible fiber blend creates intentional tonal variation, and the achievable result depends on fiber content, dye response and yarn availability. Send a Pantone reference or physical swatch; we will confirm the closest achievable color through a swatch or lab dip before production.

Construction & decoration

What's on the tech pack

Standard options include crew or V-neck shapes, ribbed or raw-edge collars, side-seamed bodies, custom fits, woven labels, printed neck labels and custom packaging. Standard construction normally remains within the regular MOQ; custom-developed ribs, special trims, tubular fabric or uncommon materials may require a higher minimum. Screen printing, puff printing and embroidery are compatible with slub jersey, although very fine line art may appear slightly softer on a pronounced texture. Decoration placement and artwork should be tested on the approved sample.

MOQ & ordering

Standard MOQ is 50 pieces per style, per colorway, subject to fabric and trim availability. Start by sending the quantity, size range, target blend, GSM, fit, color reference, artwork, label requirements, packaging and delivery country. We then review feasibility, quote the order, develop the swatch or sample and begin bulk production after approval. Exact repeat orders may move directly to pre-production confirmation when the approved materials and specifications remain available. A new swatch, lab dip or sample may be required when a material, supplier, color, pattern or decoration changes.

For the documents and measurements needed to begin, see our tech pack support. For inspection methods and tolerances, review our quality control process, and check our shipping and lead-time guide before setting a delivery deadline.

Frequently asked questions

What is a heather slub t-shirt?
A t-shirt made from jersey spun with intentional thick-and-thin yarn sections and often different fiber tones. This creates a marled color and irregular surface at the yarn stage rather than adding the effect later with a wash or print.
What's the difference between heather slub and regular heather fabric?
Regular heather color typically comes from blending different colored fibers evenly in a smooth yarn. Slub adds a second layer on top of that — deliberate thick-thin texture in the spin itself — so heather slub reads as both marled in color and uneven in texture, rather than color alone.
Can heather slub t-shirts be printed or embroidered?
Yes. Screen printing, puff printing, and embroidery are all compatible and applied after construction, the same as on any other tee fabric. Very fine line-art can read slightly softer on a heavier slub intensity.
What fabric weight do heather slub t-shirts use?
The sample shown on this page uses a 220 GSM reference jersey. Other weights may be possible depending on the fiber blend, yarn and construction, and the final GSM is confirmed before bulk production.
What's the MOQ for heather slub t-shirts?
The standard MOQ is 50 pieces per style and colorway, subject to fabric and trim availability. Custom-developed yarn, special trims or uncommon construction may require a different minimum.
What should I send for an accurate quotation?
Send the quantity per color, size range, target blend and GSM, fit or measurements, slub reference, Pantone or physical color swatch, decoration artwork, label and packaging requirements, delivery country and required date. A tech pack is preferred, but our team can help organize the specifications if you only have a reference garment or design concept.
Can you match a physical heather slub swatch?
Yes. A physical swatch is the best reference for fiber contrast, slub intensity, GSM and hand-feel. We confirm the closest achievable construction and provide a swatch or sample for approval before bulk production.
Can you make oversized or boxy heather slub T-shirts?
Yes. Regular, oversized, boxy and other custom fits can be developed from your tech pack, measurement chart or approved reference garment. Size grading and measurement tolerances are confirmed during sampling.
How long do sampling and bulk production take?
Sampling normally takes 7–15 business days after specifications and materials are confirmed. Bulk production is typically 25–35 days after sample and order approval. Complex fabric development, special trims and peak-season capacity can change the schedule, so the confirmed timeline appears on the quotation.
